DOWNTOWN URBANA, ILLINOIS. TRIANGLE SITE

The project site is in downtown Urbana, Illinois, with World Harvest International Supermarket and its parking lot bounded on the west, and Firestone Tire shop in the middle of the site. The road bordering the north edge of the site is Springfield Rd, and the road south is Main St. The memorial tree on the eastern corner of the site cannot be removed.

The current site isn’t used efficiently, with broken infrastructure, and Firestone Tire shop barely holding together. Rubble to Roots takes apart Firestone, and uses the excavated material mixed with soil to regrow a native prairie, wetland prairie, and pollinator garden on site.
Given Urbana’s shallow water table, and the lowest point on site, Rubble to Roots only digs down 5 ft to reach the water table. This area is now a dry pond. The area closest to the water is a wetland prairie, the middle area is a prairie, and the highest area on the east side are pollinator plants.
Proposed rooftop terraces for people to view the beautiful garden since there are no paths in the site. This site is simply for restoration without human disturbance. Some notable pollinators attracted to these plants are the monarch butterfly, grey hairstreak butterfly, and the long tongued bee.
